Finalità

To describe the tools for the analysis and design of signal processing systems based on digital techniques.

Programma

Discrete-time signals and systems—One-dimensional discrete-time signals and systems. Frequency-domain representation of discrete-time signals and systems: Fourier transform. Linear constant-coefficient difference equations.

The z-transform—Definition. Inverse z-transform. Z-transform theorems and properties. Correspondence between the s-plane and the z-plane. System function. Systems with finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR). Stability of a system.

The discrete Fourier Transform (DFT)—Definition and properties. Circular convolution. Linear convolution using the DFT. Relation between Z-transform and DFT. Fast Fourier transform (FFT).

Digital processing of analog—Sampling and interpolation. Simulation of analog systems. Design of IIR digital filters from analog filters: impulse invariance design and bilinear transformation. Design of FIR filters using windows. Computer-aided design of FIR filters.

Attività d'esercitazione

Solution of previously assigned problems.

Written and oral exam.
