This unit deals with some aspects of electronics for industrial applications. In particular, it aims at giving the students specific knowledge of the physics of high-power semiconductor devices, their drivers and protection circuits (snubbers), as well as an overview of non-ideality effects in passive components.
1) Semiconductor electron devices for power applications: p-i-n diodes; bipolar transistors (BJTs); VDMOSFETs; SCRs, GTOs and their drivers; IGBTs.
2) Snubbers and drivers for high-power devices.
3) Overview of non-linearities and design considerations for passive components: capacitors; magnetic cores; inductors; transformers.
