Stabilita' dei pendii B ( 5 CFU )
Professore: DA ASSEGNARE

Finalità
The course will be dedicated to the study of the numerical methods applied in the geotechnical field. These methods will regard the study of the triggering and evolution phases of landslides, considering the various mechanical behaviour of granular and/or rock materials involved.
In this field useful notions will be given on the possibility of application of several numerical methods developing, in particular, the distinct element methods for the study of the behaviour of fractured rock masses.
The available monitoring methods will be described as well and informations on the back-analysis processes will be given.
Then, slope reinforce and protection methods will be studied with particular enfaces on the design of appropriated structures.
The course will be held by means of theoretical lessons and application exercises to be solved both in class and on the PC.

Programma
During the course the following topics will be discussed:
• Slope Stability analysis method both numerical and analytical for the study of the triggering condition;
• Analytical and numerical method for the analysis of the motion of unstable masses;
• Slope defence and consolidation method.

During the course stability analysis method and provisional method are teated. In particular analytical and numerical models for rock fall analysis and for the analysis of mechanical behaviour of blocky system are discusses in the details as well as stability analysis method for rock and soil slope. The key block theory is also described and studied in order to perform statistical analysis of discontinues rock masses. General concepts and application cases of the finite element method and of the distinct method are dealt with related to the studies of complex landslides. The evolution mechanism of mud flow is studied using an analytical model while the evolution mechanism of debris flow is analysed using an numerical model based on the cellular automata theory.
Dynamic analysis (earthquakes) of slopes are performed using particular application of the Newmark method while some probabilistic methods (Montecarlo, Rosenblueth, Bayes and Fuzzy) are discussed in order to take into account the variability of the physical and geometrical parameters.
The course ends with the description of most common method for slope stabilization and for rock fall protection.
