Definition, packaging market, packaging and environment. Law and regulations. Primary packaging: economical and technical functions, environment and security issues; tools for identification of primary packaging. Secondary packaging: characteristics and identification systems. Tertiary packaging: containers, box, roll, pallet and related standards; identification: logistics label, SSCC; slip sheet. Packaging design
Material handling systems
Classification of material handling systems for solid materials. AGV (automatic guided vehicle). Classification of material handling systems for bulk materials. Storage systems for bulk materials.
Design of storage systems
Introduction and classification. Functional areas. Material acceptance: design, performance parameters. Manual storage systems: characteristics, designing, selecting storage typology, storage area sizing, assessment of the storage surface, optimal lay-out, products location, sizing of material handling systems Automated storage systems: designing, time assessment. Warehouse management systems.
Freight transport systems
Introduction and definitions. Criteria for transport systems selection. Road transport. Rail transport. Intermodal transport.
