Programma

**Fundamental** and derived quantities dimensional and units. Scalars and vectors.

**Kinematics**: velocity, acceleration in rettilinear and curvilinear motion (tangential and normal components). Relative motion : trasformation of velocities and accelerations.

**Dynamics of a particle**: inertial frame of reference, principles of dynamics, linear and angular momentum, conservation laws. Weight, elastic forces, frictional forces. Work, power, kinetic energy. Conservative forces and potential energy, work- energy theorem and conservation of mechanical energy. Energy diagrams and stability of equilibrium. Non –inertial frame of references, inertia-forces.

**Dynamic of a system of particles**: center of mass, moment of inertia, center of mass reference frame and Koenig’s theorems, cardinal equation, work and energy, static equilibrium. Case of the rigid body. Impulse, elastic and anelastic collisions.

**Universal Gravitation**: Kepler’s laws, the law of Universal Gravitation, the gravitational field, gravitational potential energy, weight field.

**Fluid Mechanics**: quantities in fluid mechanics, pressure. Fundamental equation of hydrostatics, Stevino’s law. Archimede’s principle. Fluid dynamics (perfect fluid) : Bernulli’s equation and applications. Introduction to viscous fluids.

**Thermodinamics**: thermal equilibrium, zeroth law, temperatural scales, ideal gases. Heat and First Law of Thermodynamics, specific heat, the Carnot cycle. Second Law of Thermodynamics, the Carnot engine and property, entropy. Third Law, absolute zero. Kinetic theory of gases : molecular interpretation of pressure and temperature, heat capacity of ideal gases.

**Electrostatics**: introduction, Coulomb’s law, electric field, quantities and units, Gauss’ law, the field of a simple carge distributions. Electrostatic potential, potential energy and work. Electric dipoles. Capacitance and capacitors, electrostatic energy and his density.

Modalità d'esame

Written test and oral exam.

Three written test during the term : a sufficent average grade over the written tests admit to oral exam diretly.
